Hong Kong announces Women’s squad for the 19th Asian Games 2023 in China

The Hong Kong women’s cricket team has an impressive record in the T20I format with a win percentage of around 53%. They were last involved in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Region Qualifier in Malaysia which concluded on 31st August 2023.

The Hong Kong women’s team finished second on the points table as they managed to get three victories under their belt. Their only defeat came against Thailand. However, they failed to qualify for the next stage. They will now be seen playing in the upcoming, 19th edition of the Asian Games which is scheduled to get underway on 19th September 2023 in Hangzhou, China.

Cricket will be making a return to the Asian Games for the first time after 2014. A total number of nine teams will be participating in the tournament, namely Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mongolia, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Thailand. Five teams, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Thailand have already qualified for the Quarter-finals.

“This tournament provides us with an excellent opportunity to raise the profile of Hong Kong’s Women’s cricket within Asia and especially in the greater China region. This will be the first opportunity for several of our girls to play in front of such a large global audience and against some of the best players in the region. We are looking forward to the experience and are aiming to continue our strong performances from the World Cup qualifiers!” Hong Kong Women’s head coach Andy Cottam continuing their form from the Asia Region Qualifier.
