With the 3-match Women’s ODI series between West Indies and South Africa finely poised at 1-1, the stage is set for a dramatic showdown in the decider finale at the Three Ws Oval on June 17.

In the opening ODI, South Africa posted 232, with Tazmin Brits registering a fluent half-century. However, the game witnessed a strong 88-run opening stand between Qiana Joseph (60) and Hayley Matthews (40), setting up the chase for West Indies, who won by six wickets, chasing down the revised target of 180 comfortably with two overs to spare.
South Africa responded in style in the second ODI, piling up 309/9 on the back of Sune Luus’ return to form with 76 and explosive lower order knocks from Annerie Dercksen and Chloe Tryon. Despite valiant half-centuries from Matthews and Shemaine Campbelle, Nonkululeko Mlaba’s ODI-best 4/33 derailed the chase as West Indies were bowled out for 269, handing South Africa a 40-run win.
The West Indies returned to familiar territory after a challenging outing in England, where they endured consecutive 3-0 defeats in both the ODI and T20I series. Only recently their hopes of reaching the ODI World Cup also took a hit, as they narrowly missed qualification.
South Africa, on the other hand, arrived in the Caribbean with a busy schedule ahead. After this tour, they are set to host Pakistan for a vital three-match ODI series as they ramp up preparations for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in India.
Head-to-Head
The two teams have faced off in 35 ODIs so far and South Africa holds the upper hand with 17 wins, while West Indies have claimed 11. There have also been 4 no results and 3 ties between them. Before this series, the West Indies had not defeated South Africa since 2018. However, their victory in the series opener set up a thrilling contest, and South Africa’s equalizing win in the second ODI adds further anticipation ahead of the decisive third match.
