England’s World Cup-winning captain Heather Knight has committed her future to Somerset by signing a contract extension that will keep her at the club until at least the end of the 2026 season. With a prolific international career featuring 295 appearances—including 149 ODIs, 132 T20Is, and 14 Tests—Knight is a pivotal figure in women’s cricket, both on and off the field.

Knight’s cricket journey began through the Devon Pathway, making her county debut in 2005, and later representing Berkshire from 2010 to 2019 before returning to Somerset. This summer, she showcased her all-round ability in her 6 One Day Cup outings for Somerset, scoring 244 runs at an average of 40.66 and taking four wickets, with her best figures being three for seven.
Reflecting on the contract extension, Knight said, “I’m really pleased to have extended my time with Somerset. It’s a Club that means a lot to my family and I, and I feel a huge amount of pride every time I pull on the shirt.”
Despite a frustrating season due to injury, Knight expressed her affection for the club’s environment, she said, “This season has been frustrating on a personal level for me due to injury, but I’ve loved every moment of my time at the Cooper Associates County Ground.”
She also highlighted the importance of Somerset’s role in advancing women’s cricket by saying, “The first year of Tier 1 cricket has been groundbreaking and the women’s game is only going to get stronger. Somerset have always been committed to driving the Women’s game forward and I’m delighted that I’m going to be able to play a part in that again next season.”
Trevor Griffin, Somerset’s Head Coach, praised Knight’s leadership and influence, emphasizing her value beyond her on-field performances, Trevor said, “It’s fantastic news that Heather has extended her commitment to Somerset. She’s a hugely respected, world class player and leader who our young squad can learn so much from.”
He also added “She’s put in many match winning performances for us in the past, but her influence goes far beyond that. She’s a wonderful role model for all those wanting to carve a professional career in cricket and I’m so pleased that our squad will be able to continue to learn from her.”
Andy Hurry, Director of Cricket at Somerset, echoed the admiration for Knight’s excellence and inspiring presence. He said, “Heather is genuinely world class both on and off the field and we are delighted that she will continue to have a positive impact on the Club and our players for at least another year.”
He concluded by saying, “She is an inspiration, and we are delighted that she is committed to taking the team forward.”
With this renewed contract, Heather Knight’s exceptional experience and leadership will continue to be a cornerstone for Somerset as the club and women’s cricket move confidently into the future.
