Australia have locked in their 15-player squad for the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025, to be played in India and Sri Lanka from September 30. The defending champions enter the tournament aiming for an unprecedented eighth title, having already lifted the trophy seven times—the most by any team.

Alyssa Healy, embarking on her third World Cup journey, will captain the defending champions. She was the standout performer of the 2022 edition in New Zealand, scoring a tournament-best 509 runs, including a career-defining 170 in the final against England. Fresh from overcoming a foot injury, Healy reminded everyone of her class with a scintillating 137 not out from 85 balls versus India A.
Ten players from the 2022 title-winning squad retain their spots, among them Ellyse Perry, Beth Mooney, Ash Gardner, Megan Schutt, and Tahlia McGrath, all proven performers on the big stage. Australia have also added five players preparing for their first 50-over World Cup: batter Georgia Voll, all-rounder Kim Garth, opener Phoebe Litchfield, and spinners Sophie Molineux and Georgia Wareham.
Australia’s squad for Women’s World Cup 2025:
Alyssa Healy (C), Tahlia McGrath (VC), Darcie Brown, Ashleigh Gardner, Kim Garth, Grace Harris, Alana King, Phoebe Litchfield, Sophie Molineux, Beth Mooney, Ellyse Perry, Megan Schutt, Annabel Sutherland, Georgia Voll, Georgia Wareham
Voll has made an immediate impact, scoring 173 runs from 3 ODIs against India in December 2024, with a top score of 101. Garth brings both experience and depth, having represented Australia in 22 ODIs, collecting 32 wickets with a best of 3 for 8, while earlier in her career she also played 34 ODIs for Ireland, taking 23 wickets. Litchfield, just 22, has already become a key figure with 28 ODIs yielding 895 runs. Her recent tally of 292 runs powered the Northern Superchargers to their maiden title in England’s domestic competition.
With conditions in India and Sri Lanka expected to aid spin, Australia have packed their squad with variety. Sophie Molineux, returning from knee surgery, is joined by Alana King and Georgia Wareham. Molineux, who has 13 ODIs and 23 wickets with the best of 4/14, may miss the upcoming India ODI series as her recovery is monitored. Wareham, meanwhile, has played 42 ODIs, taking 45 wickets with a best of 3/23.
Selector Shawn Flegler backed the squad to thrive under pressure, noting: “A World Cup in India is one of cricket’s biggest assignments, but we believe this group is up for the challenge.”
He also highlighted the value of sub-continent experience: “The exposure gained through recent tours to Asia and the Women’s Premier League will serve us well in adapting to Indian conditions.”
In the lead-up to the World Cup, Australia will face India in a three-match ODI series starting September 14, with Nicole Faltum and Charli Knott joining for that tour. Their final preparation comes against England in a warm-up match on September 27.
