The England women’s cricket team have named a formidable 15-player squad for the upcoming ODI Series against India, beginning July 16, 2025. The announcement comes with several eye-catching inclusions, notably the return of Lancashire’s ace spinner Sophie Ecclestone and a recall for in-form Hampshire batter Maia Bouchier.

Sophie Ecclestone’s return is a significant boost for the home side after she missed the recent series against the West Indies. The world-renowned left-arm spinner’s presence adds much-needed experience and guile to England’s attack. Ecclestone’s abilities in pressure situations have often been England’s trump card, and her fitness will be closely watched throughout the series.

Maia Bouchier, who has been in scintillating form for Hampshire in the Women’s T20 Blast, also finds a place in the squad. The dynamic top-order batter is currently the second-highest run-scorer for her side this season, amassing 242 runs from eight innings at a blistering strike rate of 152.20 and an average of 34.57. Bouchier’s overall record for Hampshire in the format is equally impressive, with 482 runs at 106.87 SR and an average of 37.07, including a century and two fifties.

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt is expected to lead the team, recovering from the groin injury that saw her miss the conclusion of the T20I series. England’s middle order will be anchored by her steady presence and invaluable leadership as she aims to guide her side to another home series victory.

Another major talking point is the inclusion of Durham’s pace prospect Lauren Filer. After an injury layoff, Filer produced a match-defining performance at the Kia Oval last week, clocking up to 76mph in a fiery spell, a timely reminder of her potential. In the ODI format, 27 wickets in 17 innings at 21.29 apiece and 5.18 RPO, speaks volumes about her capabilities with the new ball.

The England squad features a blend of experience and youthful exuberance: Proven veterans like Tammy Beaumont and Amy Jones provide top-order stability and wicketkeeping expertise. All-round options in Alice Capsey, Alice Davidson-Richards, and Emma Lamb add depth to both batting and bowling departments. Reliable bowling duo Kate Cross and Charlie Dean are expected to play pivotal supporting roles.
