Tazmin Brits Creates History with Third Consecutive ODI Century, Only 2nd Player to do so

In a golden phase of her career, South Africa’s seasoned opener Tazmin Brits has etched her name alongside one of the all-time greats of the women’s game. The 34-year-old became only the second woman in history, after New Zealand’s former skipper Amy Satterthwaite, to score three consecutive centuries in Women’s ODIs.

Satterthwaite’s record run of four successive hundreds came in 2016–17, and for nearly a decade, no one came close to matching it, until now, as Brits continues to elevate her batting to unprecedented highs.

A Record-Breaking Knock by Tazmin Brits

Brits’ latest milestone came in the ongoing 2nd ODI against Pakistan at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore, where she struck a majestic 171* off 141 balls, her career-best score. Her innings sparkled with 20 fours and 4 sixes, commanding the game from start to finish. The right-hander shared an imposing 260-run opening partnership with her captain, Laura Wolvaardt (100 off 129), setting a new record for the highest partnership for any wicket in South Africa’s women’s ODI history. This was also their second double-century stand together, making them only the third pair in women’s ODI history after Meg Lanning–Ellyse Perry and Tammy Beaumont–Amy Jones to achieve this rare feat.

South Africa piled up 292/3 in 46 overs in a rain-interrupted contest, with Pakistan set a revised DLS target of 313 in 46 overs.

Centuries in Consecutive Matches for Tazmin Brits

The innings followed Brits’ unbeaten 101 off 121 balls in the opening ODI of this series, where she guided South Africa to victory alongside Marizanne Kapp (121*). Before arriving in Pakistan, she had also scored a fluent 101 off 91 balls against the West Indies at Cave Hill, back in June 2025, completing her remarkable sequence of three tons in three consecutive ODIs.

Setting Age-Defying Standards

Brits’ knock in Lahore also carried historical weight in another regard. At 34 years and 254 days, she became the oldest player to score 150+ runs in a Women’s ODI innings. Moreover, her sixth career century, achieved in just 39 innings, makes her the second-fastest woman to six ODI centuries, just behind Australia’s legendary skipper Meg Lanning (38 innings).

Significantly, Brits have now notched up six ODI centuries since turning 30, the most by any player in this format during that stage of their career. She also joined India’s vice-captain, Smriti Mandhana, in registering the most centuries in a calendar year (4 in 2024 and now equalled in 2025). On the broader stage, her tally of 22 List A centuries in 141 innings places her fifth on the all-time list in women’s cricket, a testament to her consistency across formats.

Career Growth for Tazmin Brits

Since making her ODI debut against Pakistan at Durban on 26th January 2021, Brits has compiled 1,419 runs in 39 matches at a strike rate of 79.31 and an average of 38.35. Her record includes six centuries and two half-centuries, but what stands out is her remarkable conversion rate, consistently delivering in big-match situations.

South Africa, led by Laura Wolvaardt, is currently ahead 1–0 in the ongoing three-match series against Pakistan, with Brits at the heart of their domination. Her current purple patch could not have come at a better time, with the 13th ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 just around the corner.

The marquee event, scheduled from 30th September to 2nd November 2025, will be hosted by India and partly in Sri Lanka, featuring eight teams: India, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, England, Bangladesh, and Pakistan. Wolvaardt’s South Africa will open their campaign against Nat Sciver-Brunt’s England on 3rd October in Guwahati (3 PM IST). Heading into the World Cup, Tazmin Brits’ sensational run of form provides South Africa with both solidity and explosiveness at the top of the order, making them genuine contenders.
