The Shrachi Rarh Tigers, who had an impressive run last year, finished second on the points table with 5 wins and 2 losses from seven matches. They’ll be eyeing another strong performance this season and a better finish on the points tally. In contrast, the Sobisco Smashers Malda will be looking to stage a turnaround after a disappointing 2024 campaign, where they finished sixth with just 6 points. A fresh season brings new hope—and the Smashers will be eager to prove they’re no longer underdogs.

Players to watch out:

Piyali Ghosh

A dynamic all-rounder, Piyali Ghosh switches sides this season after previously representing Sobisco Smashers Malda. She made an immediate impact last year, scoring a crucial 40 off 39 balls and delivering a tight spell of 1/13 in her four overs against Rashmi Medinipur Wizards. She is known for her ability to anchor innings and break partnerships with the ball and will be a key asset for the Tigers this season.

Shreya Karar

A promising bowling all-rounder, she was one of the standout performers for Sobisco Smashers Malda last season. She picked up a clinical 3/22 in four overs and this season, she is set to represent the Shrachi Rarh Tigers, as she further bolsters their spin attack and brings with her valuable experience.

Jhumia Khatun

One of the most consistent performers in the league’s bowling department, Jhumia Khatun previously played for Harbour Diamonds. She impressed with a tidy spell of 2/24. Now part of the Sobisco Smashers Malda setup, she is expected to lead their bowling unit and exploit the spin-friendly conditions.

Hrishita Basu

A dependable batter, Hrishita Basu was one of the few bright spots for Sobisco Smashers last season. She scored a composed 44 off 41 balls against Adamas Howrah Warriors Women and was deservedly named Player of the Match. Her temperament and ability to anchor innings make her a key figure in Malda’s batting lineup.

Pitch:

The surface at the Jadavpur University Complex is known to be slow and spin-friendly, especially as the match progresses. With a dry and abrasive texture, the pitch tends to assist spinners more than pacers, making it a challenging track for batters. Teams batting first often have a slight advantage, as the surface tends to slow down in the second innings, making stroke play more difficult.

Weather:

The conditions in Jadavpur are expected to be partly cloudy with a temperature of 34°C. Humidity levels will hover around 65%, however, there is a chance of light rain during the day, which could bring brief interruptions or moisture on the surface early on.
