Brazil Women capped off a flawless campaign in the Women’s ICC T20 Tri-Series, remaining unbeaten throughout the competition and sealing the title with a clinical win over Jersey.
Batting first, Jersey managed 122 but struggled for momentum after a shaky start. Opener Analise Merritt was dismissed without scoring, while Grace Wetherall counterattacked with an impressive 36 off just 20 deliveries to give her side early impetus.
However, Brazil’s bowlers struck regularly as the middle order collapsed to single digits- Aimee Aikenhead (4), Annabel Mossop (4), and Trinity Smith (2) all failing to build partnerships. Florence Tanguy added 10, before a crucial late stand saw Erin Gouge (19* off 18) and Mia Maguire (13 off 12) lift Jersey to a respectable 122.
Brazil’s bowling unit once again proved their strength, led by the outstanding Maria Ribeiro, who ripped through Jersey’s line-up with figures of 4/17. She was well supported by Lindsay Boas (3/28) and Nicole Monteiro (2/19), ensuring Jersey never broke free despite flashes of resistance.
In reply, Brazil approached the chase with composure and confidence. Lindsay Boas provided a quickfire 15 off 9 at the top, but her dismissal alongside the early wicket of Laura Agatha (0) briefly gave Jersey hope.
However, it was quickly extinguished by a match-winning partnership between Roberta Avery and Laura Cardoso. Avery anchored the innings with a steady 35* off 40 balls, while Cardoso unleashed an array of strokes in a commanding 71* off just 43 deliveries. Their unbeaten stand carried Brazil to 126/2 in 15.3 overs, sealing an emphatic victory.
Jersey’s bowlers toiled hard, with Chloe Greechan (1/12) and Florence Tanguy (1/18) among the wickets, but they lacked the penetration needed to halt Brazil’s momentum.
With this eight-wicket triumph, Brazil not only lifted the Tri-Series trophy but also sent a strong message about their growing presence in women’s cricket. Dominant with both bat and ball, they showcased depth, discipline, and flair, qualities that defined their unbeaten run throughout the tournament.
