Georgia represents the bright future of New Zealand women’s cricket. A right-handed batter with an elegant yet powerful stroke play, Plimmer has already shown remarkable promise at the international level. From starring in the inaugural U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup to playing a crucial role in New Zealand’s historic 2024 ICC Women’s T20 World Cup triumph, she has quickly transitioned from a teenage prodigy into a dependable top-order batter for the White Ferns.

Initially more invested in softball, she was introduced to cricket during year nine by Amelia and Jess Kerr, who encouraged her to pursue the sport. Her natural hand-eye coordination and attacking instincts soon marked her as a standout junior talent. She made her List A debut for Wellington in the 2019-20 Hallyburton Johnstone Shield and her T20 debut in the 2020-21 Super Smash, establishing herself as one of the Blaze’s exciting young prospects.

Georgia Plimmer’s Rapid Rise

Plimmer’s rapid ascent began in 2022, when she earned a late call-up to New Zealand’s squad for the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup, replacing the injured Lauren Down. Her ODI debut followed against the West Indies on 25 September 2022. In December 2022, she was named in New Zealand’s squad for the inaugural ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup.

She finished as New Zealand’s leading run-scorer, tallying 155 runs at an average of 51.66, a performance that confirmed her as one of the brightest emerging batters on the world stage. Plimmer was one of six fresh faces to be handed a central contract in 2022; a sign of the faith New Zealand Cricket had in her long-term potential.

Plimmer’s growth continued into ODIs. By March 2025, she reached another milestone, scoring her maiden ODI century (112) against Sri Lanka in Nelson. This innings not only highlighted her temperament for longer formats but also her ability to construct match-defining knocks. In total, she has scored 396 runs in 19 ODI innings, with her maiden hundred signaling the start of bigger things to come.

With the potential to become a long-term mainstay in New Zealand’s top order, Plimmer is widely seen as one of the faces of the next generation of White Ferns cricket, a player capable of carrying the team forward in both ODIs and T20Is.
