The 2025 ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup will be the thirteenth edition of the tournament and a historic occasion for the game. Scheduled to run from 30 September to 2 November 2025, the event will be staged across five cities—Guwahati, Vizag, Indore, Navi Mumbai, and Colombo.

For the first time, India and Sri Lanka will join hands as co-hosts. While India has previously organized the competition on three occasions—1978, 1997, and 2013—this will be Sri Lanka’s maiden hosting experience. Adding to its significance, the 2025 edition will be the final World Cup to feature eight teams, with the tournament expanding to 10 participants in 2029.

The history of the Women’s World Cup has largely been defined by the dominance of Australia, who enter this edition as the defending champions. Their record is unmatched, with seven titles secured in 1978, 1982, 1988, 1997, 2005, 2013, and 2022. England are the next most successful team with four trophies, having triumphed in 1973, 1993, 2009, and 2017. New Zealand is the only other nation to etch their name on the cup, with their victory in 2000 standing as a lone but memorable achievement.

Several teams have had moments of near glory. India have been runners-up twice, in 2005 and 2017, while West Indies reached the final once, in 2013. Beyond these, no other team has contested the summit clash.

The eight competing nations bring together a mix of legacy, talent, and ambition. Australia, England, India, and Sri Lanka will be joined by Pakistan, Bangladesh, New Zealand, and South Africa. Each team arrives with unique strengths, and the balance between experience and rising talent promises to make this one of the most competitive editions yet.

The World Cup has always been shaped by individual brilliance, and two remarkable performances continue to set the bar. In 2022, Alyssa Healy produced a record-breaking campaign, scoring 509 runs from nine innings, the highest tally in a single edition. On the bowling front, Sophie Ecclestone emerged as a force with 21 wickets, the best haul by a currently active cricketer in one tournament. As the 2025 competition begins, these records will serve both as inspiration and as challenges for the new generation.
