Hailing from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, Deepti Sharma’s rise in cricket is a story of perseverance, raw talent, and quiet determination. Introduced to the sport by her elder brother Sumit Sharma, who doubled up as her first coach, Deepti’s game was later polished under the watchful eyes of mentors like Rita Dey and Hemlata Kala.

Franchise Cricket Exposure

At the domestic level, Deepti represents Bengal, but her presence has been felt far beyond Indian borders. A globe-trotting professional, she has showcased her skills in premier leagues across the world—Western Storm in England, London Spirit at The Hundred, Sydney Thunder and Melbourne Stars in Australia, and UP Warriorz in the Women’s Premier League.

Her stature has only grown in the franchise circuit. In WPL 2023, UP Warriorz secured her services for ₹2.6 crore, underlining her value as a game-changer. In the 2024 season she became the first Indian to claim a hat-trick—before finishing as the MVP of WPL 2024. Ahead of WPL 2025, she was named captain of UP Warriorz, succeeding Alyssa Healy.

Deepti Sharma’s International Career

Deepti’s international debut came at just 17, when she represented India in an ODI against South Africa at Bengaluru in November 2014. Soon after, she made history: a breathtaking 188 against Ireland, part of a record 320-run opening stand with Poonam Raut, remains the best opening stand in women’s one day cricket. With the ball, her 6/20 against Sri Lanka in 2016 established her as the youngest Indian—across men’s and women’s cricket—to claim a six-wicket haul in ODIs.

On the international stage, Deepti’s numbers reflect her all-round dominance. In ODIs, she has crossed 2,412 runs at an average of nearly 37, with a career-best 188, while also claiming 136 wickets at an average of 28.52 with the best of 6/20. Her 2017 World Cup campaign remains her most impactful, where she contributed 216 runs (highest 78 vs Sri Lanka) and 12 wickets, including a decisive 3/47 against England. In fact, 2017 stands as her finest ODI year, yielding 787 runs at an average of 49.18 and 22 wickets across 20 matches—remarkable consistency for a young all-rounder.

Though the 2022 World Cup was quieter with just 62 runs and 2 wickets, Deepti will be keen to bounce back strongly in the upcoming 2025 World Cup. Her recent performances underline her continued relevance. In July 2025, she produced a match-winning unbeaten 62* against England. For the year so far, she has amassed 269 runs in 12 ODIs at a stunning average of 89.66, with a top score of 93, while also taking 13 wickets with best figures of 3/27.

Calm under pressure, versatile across conditions, and a proven match-winner, Deepti Sharma today embodies the modern Indian all-rounder—balanced in skill, unflinching in temperament, and ever-evolving in ambition.
